Nikki Sinclaire’s letter in Solihull Observer 24th July 2008

In response to Councillor Tim Hodgsons letter attacking UKIP I would suggest he should face the reality of the Lib Dems love of all things EU!  Unlike the Councillor, UKIP would not be so arrogant to presume what the public have had enough of.

UKIP are doing to the job we were elected to do in the European Elections of 2004 and exposing the EU and the LibLabCon politicians. We are right to expose the Lib Dems support for the directives that have led to post office closures. This included a directive that restricted government subsidy of £150 million a year. This was not only supported by their local MEP Liz Lynne but their leader, Nick Clegg when he was a MEP.  This makes the Lib Dem plan of £2billion investment laughable as the EU would simply not allow it. Maybe the Lib Dems should listen to Labour’s Tony Benn, former Postmaster General when he said “But now this great service is being challenged. First by the EU, which has insisted on liberalisation and demanded competition” It was this competition and liberalisation that removed many services from the post office and led to closures

At the public meeting in Shirley, I thanked Lorely Burt for calling the meeting and offered support in this matter.  She has not taken this offer up and refused to talk to us. UKIP has attacked Lorely Burt due to her going back on her referendum promise of the EU Constitution and its replacement. I would also point out that a coach full of constituents travelled to London in February and a delegation went into the House to lobby her. It took three months for her to answer our question, long after she decided which way to vote!
