The Acquis Communautaire —   the rule book for membership of the EU.

The European Union

Following the second world war and the ruins of Hitler’s  attempts at a German led United States of Europe others decided to use  the dire economic situation and peoples fear of war to begin a process if integration. The European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) was established by the Treaty of Paris in 1951.

In 1957 the six members of the ECSC (France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands)  signed the Treaty of Rome which formed the European Economic Community (EEC) and began the process of developing a common market for goods and services.

The UK twice attempted to join the EEC but were vetoed by French President de Guille . He didn’t think the UK was ‘European’. However, despite a election manifesto commitment to ‘negotiate nothing more’ Conservative Prime Minister Ted Heath signed the UK into the EEC in 1972. He was asked if the UK would lose any sovereignty by joining the EEC. He answered that the proposition was ridiculous and that it was just a trading agreement. In 1990 asked if it was his intention when joining, for Britain to be part of a federal Europe he replied “of Course” demonstrating that the British people were lied to. Successive Prime Ministers have all participated in this deception.

The European Single Act came into place in 1987 and in 1992 The EEC became the European Union (EU) under the Maastricht  Treaty

When John Major signed this treaty he made us all citizens of the European Union. Where we given a say? Of course not. The Danish electorate were given a say—they voted ‘No’ and were told to vote again and told to come back with the right answer!

The Irish electorate rejected the Nice Treaty in 1997 and were also told to try again.

The will of the people is irrelevant to the eurocrats.
